Shelby Wandrey

My work attempts to conquer time. I love making beautiful fleeting moments into stunning visual memorials. I am most inspired by the power of intimacy in human relationships as well as the intricacy of creation.

When I say I work in various mediums, I truly mean it! I work in two-dimensional mediums such as pencil, charcoal, pastel, and oil painting. Of those, I'd say that I enjoy working with charcoal and painting the most. As of late, I have thoroughly enjoyed silversmithing.

I also create art commissions for patrons and teach art classes for kids, adults, and everyone in between.

I’ve been a commissioned portrait artist since I was 14, and have a thorough background in fine arts. I began attending the Alabama School of Fine Arts in 2005 and graduated with the Outstanding Visual Arts Senior Award. I later attended the Kansas City Art Institute and finished my collegiate career at the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Bachelor’s in Art History and a minor in Mandarin. I have been teaching art for nearly three years.
